In a turn of events that the Nigerian side did not envision, Nigeria’s representatives at the Chamberlain Squash Open in Lagos were each eliminated by their competition.
The Egyptian side was our biggest Achilles heel at the event in both the male and female category as members of the Egyptian team each defeated their Nigerian counterparts, stopping them from progressing into the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Nigeria’s number one Squash player,
Babatunde Ajagbe, was suffered a three-game set defeat to Egypt’s Mohammed Reda, 11-6, 12-11, 11-4.
US-based Nigerian player, Adele Amao also suffered a defeat to another Egyptian, Karim El Hammamy.
In the women’s category, Women defending champion Yemisi Olatunji lost 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-8) to Egypt’s Menna Hamed.
Another Nigerian in the women’s category, Rofiat Abdulazeez suffered a huge defeat, but this time at the hands of Britain’s Millie Tomilson.
Rofiat lost 3-0 on 11-5, 11-2, 11-6.
Meanwhile, tournament’s favorite Zaheed Mohammed from Egypt defeated Czech Republic’s Daniel Mekbib three sets to one.
