If you feel you’re not reaching your full potential due to the fears holding you back, here are 4 powerful mindsets that can embolden you and give you the courage to truly experience life.
You’re Not Your Past
Most times we fear to take action because we’ve failed in the past. This can be crippling and may prevent us from fulfilling our dreams. It is important, however, to realise that there is always a chance of success every time we take action. If a plan didn’t work in the past, it doesn’t mean it won’t work this time around. Wake up each day knowing that the past is gone and cannot be changed. Letting go of the past will allow you to develop the right attitude for a brighter future.Failure Is A Part Of Life
The fear of failure is one of the biggest fears that exists in every man. No one likes to have their dreams and ambitions dashed. However, it is liberating when you realise that failing is an inevitable part of life. The only way to overcome this fear is to accept that we will fail at some point in our lives but to remember that there is an opportunity in every failure – an opportunity to learn from it and create a better outcome the next time.Sign up to the Connect Nigeria daily newsletter
Ask Yourself The Worst Thing That Can Happen
Sometimes, the things we fear turn out to be less scary when we take a closer look. If the fear of doing something is holding you back, imagine the worst thing that can happen if you take action. Chances are you will realise that the fear really wields no power.Motivate Yourself By Doing A Cost-Benefit Analysis
Fear is simply a lack of motivation. You fail to do something because you only see doom and gloom and can’t envisage any positive outcome. This is apparently an irrational way of thinking because most of the things we fear doing often have great potential to enrich our lives. One way to find the motivation to do the things you fear doing is to carry out a cost-benefit analysis. This involves comparing the benefits of taking a course of action with the costs associated with it. For instance, you may realise that your chances of success would be higher if you took the bold action of quitting your job and starting a business. In this case, the benefits outweigh the costs. The next time fear holds you back do a cost-benefit analysis to determine whether you’re right to be afraid or you will regret it if you don’t take action. Featured Image Source: UCFGot a suggestion?
