Mind the Plastic Challenge 2024 for Secondary Schools

For much of Nigeria, plastic waste remains hard to manage. Because it’s not biodegradable, it persists for years after being dumped; the paucity of proper waste disposal systems ensures that this hard-to-break-down material litters our streets and defaces our towns and cities.

Now, a competition is being organized to tackle this problem head-on. The Mind the Plastic Challenge is drawing on the brilliance and resourcefulness of young Nigerians whose ideas for solving plastic waste could transform the country’s environment for the better. If you’re a school in Lagos and your students have or can come up with solutions to plastic waste in Nigeria, here’s a competition you should consider entering.

Registration for this competition is open to junior and senior secondary schools
Participants stand a chance of winning cash prizes and other valuables
School administrators are advised to register their students for the challenge

Eligibility

The Mind the Plastic Challenge is open to schools that meet these criteria:

Must be located within Lagos State
Enrolled members of the schools’ teams must be aged between 8 and 18 years, and be constituted in a manner that ensures gender inclusivity
They should have teachers who are willing to oversee their students’ participation
Participating schools should have access to facilities, equipment and materials necessary for students to develop and present their projects
