How many times have you gone into God’s presence weary, tired and frustrated because you couldn’t have something you really needed or couldn’t seem to get a particular thing done? Did you cry your eyes out, speak to God about how much you needed His help, hand it all over to God and actually feel the weight lifted off your shoulder? Did you then go back into the world and take up the weight you laid up at God’s feet?
When God spoke about bringing our burdens to Him and leaving it there, He wanted us to trust and believe Him to do the impossible. But how can we claim to trust Him if we leave our troubles, and then go right back to pick them up? The truth is you either trust God all the way or you do not at all.
I remember several years ago while seeking for admission into the University of Lagos (DLI), it was so hard to get the funds I needed to purchase the school form. I also remember how hard I prayed that God would come through for me regarding it, and of course He did come through; I was able to purchase the form and write the exams. Some months later, the first and second list were released and I didn’t make the lists. One fateful morning, my cousin – who also wrote the exams – called me and asked if I would be willing to pay a certain amount of money to “settle” someone in order to get my name added to the already pasted list. I told her straight up ‘NO’. If God could provide for me to write the exams, do you actually think He couldn’t get my name on the list? You see for me if God put me in, then I can trust Him to bring me through and out. So all I did was ask God to let His will alone be done. A month later, the same cousin called me again that the school had released a third list and my name happened to be the first on the list! What a glorious God we serve.
There are no impossibilities found in God; only our limiting beliefs and ideas are holding us back. I am a firm believer that God does not fail and if we need something, ask and we do not get, it is because He is working to give us something better. God isn’t a fan of the ordinary, He specializes in extraordinary things. All we need to do is go beyond talking about how much we believe God, letting our actions do so by making sure we actually leave whatever we laid up at His feet and quit ‘helping’ God.
I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve heard the phrase, “God helps those who help themselves” and I believe that is one of the most absurd sentences ever. If you have the ability and capacity to help yourself in the first place, then you really do not need God. God is all powerful and has the utmost power to crush all impossibilities. Although our faith will often be tested by life’s challenges and circumstances, He never promised a trouble-free life. However He did instruct us to be of good cheer, because for every trial, He knows our limitations and understands that we can handle the trials because of His abundant grace which he makes available to every believer. What an assurance.
So I enjoin you today, whatever it was you had laid up and taken back, go back to Him, lay it all up and watch God come through for you.
