Lagos Set To Tackle “Agberos”

"Agberos"

If you are tired of the Agbero’s menace in Lagos, then perhaps, you may be interested in the new legislation by the state aimed at checking the unregulated activities of the bus conductors.

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem has declared that the state would take care of the menace of the touts, popularly called Agberos on its roads.

He added that government was previously unable to deal with the menace because the Agberos were members of a union.   According to the Herald.ng, he noted that while it is obvious that the Ministry of Transport and the Police have interfaced with the union for a while, the Ministry of Justice would try regulating the union to make it recognized and become better.

He indicated that the commercial buses would soon be replaced with private luxurious buses owned by the government and the new phase will render the Agberos redundant. He said that the private commercial buses do not fit into the vision of a megacity of the Ambode administration and therefore would have to phase out.

While addressing the journalists in his Alausa, Ikeja office over the weekend, he added that the state government were in the process of revolutionizing public transportation in the state, as plans have been concluded to land the first set of buses later this year.
