Lagos Public Garages To Get Circuit Camera Television, CCTV

As part of ensuring safety of passengers and properties, all public garages in Lagos state will now have now have Circuit Camera Television , CCTV installed within and around them.

This was disclosed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State chapter on Friday, April 25, 2014 by the state’s Chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede.

He said security officers would also be appointed for the parks as he was reacting to the bomb explosion at Nyanya Motor Park in Abuja on 14 April, which claimed several lives and property.

The union has agreed to appoint a chief security officer in each of its units across the state to beef up security so as to prevent such experience in Lagos.

“We have agreed to install circuit camera televisions (CCTVs) in every park in the state to ensure that we capture everything that is going on in our parks.

“We agreed to appoint a chief security officer in all units who will go for security training at a government appointed centre.

“We are also to ensure that we fence our parks with wiring and provide electricity to enhance security,” he said.

Agbede explained that the state’s Security Committee in conjunction with the union would be visiting parks to ensure compliance with the plan.

“Already we have metal detectors, but we still need to do more to beef up security so as to prevent loss of lives and property in our motor parks.”

The union leader said it was compulsory for members to comply with the directive, warning that the government had threatened to take over any park that failed to comply.

“As we pray for protection against bad incidents everyday, we must take action on our part to guard against them,” he stated.
