The Eye Care Coordinator in Jigawa State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Umar Abdulrahman, has announced that the Government has “released N20 million for the second phase of its free eye cataract surgery.” He said that more than 240 patients were operated in the first day of the exercise conducted in general hospitals in five local government areas of the state in Dutse, Kazaure, Ringim, Gumel and Hadejia.
He also revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria that, “About 2,000 patients are expected to benefit from the exercise which will be conducted across the state.”
“The programme,” he says, “was designed by the government to assist indigents who could not afford the surgery fees for eye cataracts.” He thanked the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, and some federal lawmakers from the state for their contributions to the programme.
