Instagram has added a new feature to its platform which will allow users to upload video content up to one hour up from the previous limit which was set to one minute. In case you are wondering, those 1-hour long videos won’t be showing up on your timeline. Rather, Instagram has packaged a whole new space called IGTV, which will be the home of the new videos.
IGTV
IGTV has its own icon seated at the top row of the home screen alongside the direct message icon, Instagram logo, and the stories camera icon. The Instagram logo has also been moved more to the left to accentuate the new design.
IGTV will be the new hub of fresh video content from your favorite Instagram creators.
You can dive straight in and enjoy video content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests. Whether it’s your favorite skit from
Maraji or funny interviews from Krakstv, IGTV promises to offer a more Instagram immersive experience.
It also has its own standalone app. On launching the app, videos start playing right away just like it would on a normal TV. And yes, you can always change the channel. You guessed it! IGTV has channels. But, in IGTV, the creators are the channels. When you follow a creator on Instagram, their IGTV channel will show up for you to watch. You can also upload your own IGTV videos in the app or on the web to start your own channel and be on your way to Instagram stardom.
According to Instagram, IGTV will not feature to begin with, but the platform is working towards a means to monetize the platform to pay off the creators of IGTV Videos for their hard work.
The IGTV app is available globally on
iOS and
Android, as well as in the Instagram app through a TV shaped button above Stories.
