How to Safely Transport Your Cake After Pickup

Adobe Stock

At one point in time or the other, we’ve had to order and pick up cakes. Since we didn’t know how to go about it, we played it by the ear. Some of us were lucky and the cake made it home without incident. But some others either came home with an injured cake or with a sob story of how the bird they shot dead suddenly flew away. This has left most of us wondering if there is an easy way to do cake pickups. Well, the first thing you should know is that picking up a cake is easy in theory but a bit difficult in practice. There are dos and dont’s which must be adhered to for drama-free transportation and delivery. I’m sure you’ll find the following tips useful.

Lift the cake carefully

Cake is not something you carry anyhow because you wan do shakara. It will just fall yakata and all the money you spent on buying it will end in o ma se o. Cakes are fragile; as such, they should be handled with care. Thus, whenever you want to lift it, put your hand beneath the base. Don’t ever lift cake by holding the top of the plastic wrap. That’s because the plastic will most likely give way and the cake will fall to the ground.

Pay for more than one seat if your means of transportation is public

If you plan on using public transport after cake pickup, bear in mind that all these “aunty, abeg, shift make I enter or adjust make I come down” will not bode well for your cake. All that movement may either push the cake out of your hand or ruin some of the decorations. So, just pay for an extra seat(s). Your cake will be relatively safer that way. Also, do not place your cake on the floor of the bus, taxi or keke. Instead, put the cake on your thigh. It’s not the best practice but what can we do but improvise?

When using private vehicle, let the size of the cake determine where it should be kept

If you want to use a private car to transport the cake, please, do not go with your generation. Leave them at home, inugo? Having said that, most cakes are usually smaller than 12″ in diameter so it can fit in the front seat passenger side floorboard. Place it there as cakes need a flat surface for incident-free transport. However, if your cake is larger than that and you are driving yourself, then, make sure you go with someone who’s preferably an adult. Place the cake on the thighs of the passenger or on a level, air-conditioned spot.

Drive with caution

If you want to avoid stories that touch, then don’t show your James Bond driving skills when carrying a cake especially a tiered one. Drive carefully. Avoid pot-holes, sharp turns and crazy drivers. Avoid slamming your brakes too; if need be, turn on your hazard light.

Pickup the cake and go home straight

Don’t pick up your cake and then leave it in the car to go shopping. And please, for goodness sakes, don’t pick up your cake and then start the tour of the universe. If you have errands to run, run them first before going to pick your cake. Cake pickup should be your last trip before arriving at your final destination. I hope you study and put these tips to good use. Happy December, Friends.   Sources: Gatsy Cakes That’s the Cake Featured Image Source: Adobe Stock
