In one way or another other in our lives, we get into partnerships. It could be for the purpose of a business deal, marriage relationship, academic friendship, mentorship, etc. However we look at it, we need people to survive. But it is not in bringing random people into our spaces. It is more about ensuring there are valuable people in our network. This can only be achieved when we have set personal goals. We must first understand who we are, what we want, and how these people can be beneficial to us, and vice versa.
In this article, I will be focusing on how we can create and maintain good business partnerships that will transcend business and bring all-around growth in our lives. Does this look like what you are interested in? Then read on.
Share the same values
For you to become friends with anyone, you must first, share the same ideologies. The scriptures teach that two cannot work and walk together if they don’t agree on matters. Identify individuals or business ventures that have similar values. That is the only way you can make progress in your partnership.
Complement each other
When seeking out business partners, look for those that complement you. What does this mean? There are certain attributes you might be lacking as a person, or as a business outlet, get a partner that will have these qualities.
For instance, if you do not have enough human and material resources, it is only wise that you partner with a business that does.
Set the right business structure
Whether you are a sole proprietor or a limited liability company owner, you need to set a structure for your business. A business without a concrete structure cannot stand. It will be easy for a partner to come in and disrupt the process. So, it is advisable to set a model you want to operate with.
Define roles and responsibilities
One good decision you can make in the process of getting business partnerships is to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each partner.
This is important so that no party will underperform, or go overboard. It will also ensure there is no breach of space. Draw the line and know exactly what each partner is bringing to the table.
Write it down
A deal is not a deal if it is not written and duly signed. No matter how certain you are of your intended business partner, it is expedient that you put the agreement down in writing. This written agreement will include the roles and responsibilities of each partner, the resources they are contributing, the period of the partnership, and the exact goal of the partnership. It should also be signed by all the partners in the loop. This will make for accountability, at every stage of the partnership.
In your effort to create valuable business partnerships, never neglect the place of honesty and integrity. Relationships are stronger when trust is in the equation. You can’t afford to trade this for anything. Be open to each other and push for the continual growth of your business.
