Youths around the world are celebrating International Youth Day today, and by all means, they should. Being a young person isn’t as easy as it seems with us having some very big shoes to fill and a unique sense of pressure – the good kind – being placed on us by the generations before us.
While we celebrate, my fellow youths and I must not forget to spend some time to reflect on what it truly means to be a potential change agent and the steps that must be put in place to bring about that change. It’s so easy to complain about what’s going wrong around us, pointing fingers at who’s not doing what and how the society seems to be working against us. But what are we doing to make sure our generation doesn’t make the same mistakes being made now? And most importantly, what role are we playing – no matter how small it may be – to reverse these issues and transform them into opportunities for entrepreneurship and social empowerment.
Some more nuggets of wisdom for a very unique generation and the people that guide us:
