Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has signed the State Consumer Protection Agency Bill into law as acknowledgment of the need for consumer protection against unscrupulous manufacturers and service providers. Fashola, after signing the bill into law on Monday, said that the state government is aware that in developed countries, consumers are protected by the law and are put high consideration by companies who grant them value for their money.
He pointed out that the rationale behind the passage of the bill into law was premised on the belief that customers’ satisfaction is non-negotiable. He explained, “This is a very simple legislative intervention. No government that is alive to its responsibility will not seek to protect its citizens to ensure that they get value for their money. He continued; “What the law will do for us is to tell the consumers that they are not helpless. In the end, everybody benefits. It will raise the service level, improve the quality and standards of goods that are pushed into the market.”
