Human beings are not without fault and sometimes we do things that we feel sorry for. The norm is to apologize to whoever has been wronged so that life can go on. But there are some instances and situations in which apologizing sounds totally ridiculous. Normally, one should apologize when something wrong has been done or when mistakes are made but there are certain individuals that that make you feel like you always have to apologize for everything you do whether wrong or right. Talking with them usually means starting every sentence with a needless apology. If you find yourself saying sorry all the time, maybe you need to learn what instances you do not have to apologize for. Some of these can be:
1. Being too smart: It is normal for other people to try and make you feel less important if you are smarter than them. You definitely do not have to apologize for having more brains than the next dude. The best thing is not to allow their negativity affect you as apologizing and being sorry because you are smarter than most people is not the way to go and it may reduce your sense of value.
2. Being fat: Okay so you have a few extra pounds here and there does not mean you owe anyone an apology for being big. Each person is created in a special way different from all others. We do not have to apologize to the world because of our physical imperfections, if you decide to lose weight and get slimmer it should be your own decision and not as an apology to people.
3. Being different: Variety is the spice of life and if human beings were all to have the same characteristics, what a boring place the world would be. We may all exist in the same form but we surely have different attributes and personalities. Even twins are not the same in every aspect. You should never have to apologize for being positively different from your peers or age mates. Remember that everyone has a different purpose.
4. Things you cannot change: Human beings like to think that they have control over everything and it is the main reason why science and technology have continued to grow rapidly over the years. There are just some things which we cannot do anything about, if a situation is obviously out of your control, of what use is an apology?
Apologies can only make you feel better if you have done something wrong. Too much needless apologies can effectively kill your self-esteem and lower your worth. Only apologize when you have to, not just when you feel like.
