Nowadays, just about anything can be carcinogenic. From the food we eat to the creams we rub on our body, almost everything surrounding us has the ability to cause cancer in the body if care is not taken. Cancer remains one of the most difficult diseases to cure and manage as it continues to kill millions of people yearly. The organs, tissues, bones and even the blood is not spared from this chronic disease. In cancer and as for many other diseases, prevention is better than cure as this is the major way to avoid the disease. Although no one is immune to the disease, here are some tips that can help to lower the risk including of acquiring cancer:
- Eat healthy: It is always better to cook what you eat at home because this way you can monitor what goes into your food and what stays out of it. Consuming junk and processed food does more harm than good to the body. Endeavour to reduce the number of artificial spices added into the food you eat as these can also contribute to your risk level. Fatty and oily foods should be taken in moderation to avoid getting bad cholesterol.
- Avoid bleaching creams: Majority of people do not know the difference between bleaching creams and lightening creams. Bleaching creams totally block the production of melanin in the body and help the skin to change from dark to white. These creams are usually sold cheaply in the market and they wreak a lot of havoc on the skin, exposing it to various infections and diseases including cancer. The best way to protect your skin is to avoid using harsh chemicals on it, instead, apply moisturising creams that will make it glow no matter what shade it is.
- Avoid high-energy rays: Some jobs require people to be in an environment where powerful rays are being used to perform one function or the other. The most common ones are UV rays which are used for sterilisation in laboratories and X-rays which are used for medical identification of the skeleton in hospitals. People who work in these areas must be extra careful so as not to expose themselves to wavelengths that are too powerful for the human body.
- Get a check-up: Since prevention is always better than cure, what better way to prevent cancer than to be on the lookout for possible signs and symptoms? Regular medical checkups should be done so as to detect any abnormality in the body system.
