If you are a creative, someone with a passion for your talent, but you are unsure or unable to make a profit from it; you are going to love our
speaker focus. It is none other than the veteran photography and fine arts icon, Kelechi Amadi Obi.
Kelechi Amadi Obi is one of Nigeria’s leading creative photographers and the founder of Kelechi Amadi Obi Studios. Some of his works, which have been featured in exhibitions around the world in years include: “Transferts” Africalia at Brussels in Belgium (2003), “Lagos” at the Ifa Gallery, Stuttgart in Germany (2004), “Depth of Field” at the South London Gallery in UK (2005) and “Snap Judgement” at the New Position in Contemporary African Photography, International Centre of Photography, New York, USA (2006). In 2004, he won the St.Moritz Style Award for Photography.
Kelechi creates stunning works using every aspect of our society as a canvas. Whether it be the busy streets of Lagos, abandoned or broken down structures or the watery slums of Lagos creek, as long as it adds aesthetic value to the shot, it’s fair game. This gives his work, an air of originality and African authenticity. He is immensely talented and believes in capturing the Nigerian spirit, and pride in his work. He is not just a photographer, he is a publisher and an image storyteller, using his works to tell the African story.
Born and raised in Owerri, Imo State, and a product of Government College, Umuahia, Kelechi went on to study Law at the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus. Although he is Law graduate, he gave up his degree after his all to the Bar in 1993, to pursue his passion for Photography, lighting and painting. Since then, he has not only settled in full-time studio art, but has garnered over 20 years experience in the business of photography. He may have started off as a painter with a keen interest in creating artworks, but he quickly fell in love with photography, because it helps to freeze time and shows a portrait of the photographer. To him, a photo tells you what the interests, thoughts and focus of the photographers are.
He has worked with celebrities and musicians to create music videos and album covers, Magazine cover shoots, Fashion shows, Landscape and Architecture, besides running his studio, which is based in Anthony, Lagos. Some of the companies he has catered to are The Ford Foundation, Guiness Nigeria Plc, PZ Nigeria, British American Tobacco, StyleMania Magazine, Flour Mills Nigeria, MTN Nigeria Plc, just to name a few.
Last year, he organised a four-day workshop on Beauty and Fashion photography. For four years and from numerous interviews with the likes of Pulse TV, GoldMyne TV, Aproden TV, Cyberafricatv, etc. Kelechi has been sharing his story and knowledge with the world. This year, at the Connect Nigeria
eBusiness Fair 2018, he will be speaking on
