Doctors at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia have warned women to stop squatting in super-tight “skinny” jeans as this may pose a health risk, with the incident of a woman who temporarily lost feeling in her legs from an hours-long squeeze being the case study.
The 35-year-old woman collapsed and had to be hospitalized the day after helping a relative move home, spending hours on her haunches to unpack cupboards.
The case was reported in a British specialist publication, the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
The doctors said the extensive period of time she wore the jeans and the pressure it exerted on her lower limbs led to reduced blood supply to the leg muscles and damaged nerve fibres in the lower legs.
The report added that the woman’s legs were so swollen that the jeans could only be removed by cutting them off.
After a restorative IV drip, she was able to walk normally again four days later!
Thankfully she is safe and healthy now.
Hmmm… ladies, let us be careful please. Pay attention to what you wear and how you wear them. Pay attention to how your body reacts during the day and don’t hesitate to remove any clothing that restricts your movement and breathing. Wear outfits that are not too tight and uncomfortable; stay healthy and of course beautiful!
