President Buhari in keeping his promise to do everything in his power to keep Nigeria as one, yesterday had given a directive to the nation’s security chiefs.
He directed the military generals and security agencies to immediately tame security threats that are disturbing the peace and unity of the nation.
Present at the three hour closed-door consultation are service chiefs, like the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonishakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; Inspector General of Police(IGP), Ibrahim Idris; National Security Adviser(NSA), Maj. Gen Babagana Mongunu (RTD) among others.
While briefing the State House Correspondents after the meeting, The Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Olonishakin stated that the directive by President Buhari is for the military to checkmate majorly the Boko Haram menace in the north eastern areas and the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South East.
In a related development, IPOB believes that their activities are legal hence they are not afraid of the President’s antics. Its Ebonyi Chapter believes that the directive was divisive. President Buhari who met with service chiefs and ordered them to ensure Nigeria remains an entity is believed to have given a divisive order. IPOB, on its part, noted that the order did not talk about issues obligatory for national unity and development. We are on the sidelines as we watch the scenarios ongoing.
