Blog of the Week: Random Musings

Technology enthusiasts are drawn to Tech Blogs in pretty much the same way that fashion buffs are attracted to Fashion and Style Blogs. When it comes to the Personal Blog however, its ability to arrest and hold your attention depends on the blogger. In a lot of ways, it is like making friends. The reader doesn’t visit the blog to keep up with trends; devotees of personal blogs have simply fallen in love with the blogger’s values, interests and language. Random Musings focuses on Miss Anna Kovie Evi-Parker’s opinions on various topics, with strong emphasis on a warm and loving relationship with her Heavenly Father. In fact, most posts feature updates on her spiritual journey, while posts relating to life in general are also viewed through the eyes of a spiritually conscious young woman. The most striking thing about Random Musings is the blogger’s candour. On becoming a Christian a person does not physically relocate from Earth to Heaven. Although reborn, this blogger still has to deal with life, romance, building a career, all the while staying true to her faith. In addition to intimate letters to her Creator, and poignant poems, the blog features notes from the blogger’s self-discovery journey. In “Birthday Post” she writes, “There are a lot of things I thought I’d have achieved by now that still seem a long way off. This should leave me depressed, right? Wrong. I know this may sound cliche, but I do have plenty to be grateful for… I always thought by now I’d be married to a man who loves me. I’m not. I’m still single. I however, have started to love me. I’ve begun to accept my quirks and all. I’ve come to the place where I can think about the kind of person I am and smile. Boy, have I grown! I may not have a man who loves me… Yet. But I’m beginning to love me and that is just as, if not more, important.  It’s been a long time coming. So today, I’m thankful that I’m not yet married to that man because the foundation would have been faulty.” At other times she appears not to be conscious of the reader accompanying her on the journey, and addresses Heaven directly as she does in the poem, “Needs Fixing”: Abba, the hurt hasn’t healed The band-aid has been ripped off Uncovering years worth of love unrequited The stitch is coming undone The smile no longer holds the seam Hurting people hurt people Broken vessels don’t hold love Or anything else Fix me. Make me new. Heal me… Obviously a great lover of music, Kovie shares song lyrics accompanied with her own thoughts on the songs, in the category, “Off the Playlist”. She also shares from books she reads, under “For the Love of Books”. Other categories include “Living Single”, “Ramblings”, “Spiritual Journey” and “Lessons”, amongst others. With the Nigerian Blog Awards 2013 currently ongoing, we have our eye on Random Musings for Best Faith-based Blog.
