Beverly Naya started acting at 17, while studying in England. She graduated with a degree in philosophy, psychology and sociology from Brunel University, and also studied script-writing and film-making before deciding to return home to Nigeria to fully pursue a career in acting.
“After I graduated from university, I just knew that I wanted to act, I knew I wanted to act, and in London, I could shoot a film probably once in a year and that’s it. Whereas coming into this industry, I can build a brand as well as shoot films more often and be given a more diverse amount of scripts. So, I decided to come back for that reason.” — Naya
Her acting career in Nollywood started with a bang, with her winning the Most Promising Talent award at the Best of Nollywood Awards in 2010, and the Fastest Rising Actress award at the City People Entertainment Awards the following year. The driven actress has shown excellent acting, gracing the silver screens: The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival, which held on the 25th and 26th of August, was the second ever edition of the awards. Last year, the best actress award went to Ghana’s Joselyn Dumas.
