One of the most fascinating journeys one would undertake is the constant improvement of himself. As a personal development strategist, I have helped myself and others to improve their personal development through several hacks.

The consequences of not improving yourself can be very grievous. Companies hire people who have personally developed themselves. People who take personal development journeys never find life overwhelming. You can develop yourself in diverse ways. It could be physically, mentally, spiritually, socially and so on. Personal development is simply all-around. In this article, I will explore six powerful steps that can help you to develop yourself, moving you from mediocre to excellent.
  1. Read And Research On Areas You Want To Improve

If you want to improve your perception about how to generate wealth read books on it. I recommend Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. If you want to build your influence, I recommend amongst other books, How To Win Friends And Influence People. If you are in dire need to improve your sales, be a better parent, a better leader, boost your confidence and so on, there are a plethora of books, podcasts, videos and so on, which can help you move from where you’re to where you want to be.
  1. Get A Mentor

A mentor is an experienced and trusted adviser. Whatever you want to be, someone else has become. It’s advisable to get someone who’s experienced and can guide you into making the right choice. How do you find a mentor? Most often, we do make the mistake of thinking that a mentor must be a very old person. What separates mentors from mentees is experience. However, one of the ways to get a mentor is to walk up to them and discuss their books, their products, their services, their contributions and tell them how much it has impacted your life and how you would want to be mentored by them. Position in such a way that wouldn’t see you as a leech. Place yourself in such a way that they would benefit from the relationship. For instance, if your desire is to be an academic, you can become a research assistant to your mentor. In mentorship, you learn on the job.
  1. Practice Reflection At The Beginning And The End Of Each Day

In the journey of personal development, reflection is key. Reflection is when you take personal stock of your life or a general review of each day, week or month. During reflection, I study where I am lagging behind and where I need to improve on. For instance, you could make findings on why your week wasn’t productive. It could be that you spend so much time on social media scrolling aimlessly and watching Facebook videos or that you were committed to things that weren’t in tandem with your growth etc. In this point of reflection, you can then chose to cut out unproductive activities.

  1. Practice Reward/Punishment System

This system of rewarding myself anytime I crush my goals or punish myself anytime I slack has made me be on top of my game. For example, if I have a product to sell, let’s say I’ve got 200 digital products to sell daily, I would try and engage over 500 people by marketing my product through cold calls, cold emails or visiting potential customers in their homes or offices. If I can sell at least 190 of my digital products, I would take myself for a nice treat at one of the fanciest restaurant in town. However, should I fail to reach the targeted numbers, I would skip breakfast or add more numbers to be reached.
  1. Get Pushers And Motivators

One of the ways to personally develop myself within a record time is to get pushers and motivators. Let me give you an example if you want to keep fit by hitting the gym every morning, get friends who can motivate you. Make friends with an athletic neighbour who can drag you to the gym. You also engage your siblings. Further, the reason why many writers finish their books in record time is that they belong to one writers’ community or the other where they push themselves towards achieving their writing goals or they’re held accountable by a community leader.
  1. Keep At It

My eyes are always at the goal and I know full well the joy that is set before me if I persevere to the end. Sometimes, you might need to take a break, but never rest until your good is better, and your better is best. Keeping at it is how we become our very best in this journey of personal development.
