Unified Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, has been unveiled as the new Globacom brand ambassador.
The telecommunications giant made the announcement in a meeting with media executives on Friday, where it revealed its business direction for the year 2019.
Joshua’s first rise to the limelight came in 2016 when he won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title against Charles Martin at the O2 Arena. About one year after his IBF title win, Joshua defeated Wladimir Klitschko to claim the World Boxing Association (WBA). In 2018 Joshua brought down Joseph Parker to claim the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
Speaking at the Globacom event, the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Bisi Koleoso, said the company experienced a significant boost in its activities last year, rounding the off the year with over 45.3 million subscribers.
“In the year 2019, that is this year, we are counting on your support to take our business to new levels of success in telecommunication as you continually invest in our mission to drive digital revolution in our country, Nigeria,
“We plan to share with you a new communication direction which is driving the future, wherein we shall share with you our plans to help our subscribers to dream big, rule their world and glow in pride, backed by a superior network that offers high quality voice and data, striving to provide the best value for money especially in terms of voice and data offerings.”
Koleoso reminded the executives that ever since the company’s launch in 2003, Globacom has supported music, comedy and the movie industries in Nigeria, and other African countries. Picking ambassadors from various fields in the entertainment sector.
“Today, I am pleased to inform you that we have taken this launch higher with the unveiling of Anthony Joshua, a global icon and all the student champion many times over.”
In the video commercial played at the event, Joshua was featured saying:
“Speed, power, tenacity and the fighting spirit that Nigerians are known for. Naija, we too much. Glo, I hail ooh”
The heavyweight champion is expected to name an opponent for his next big fight at the Wembley stadium, set for April 13, 2019.
