The information was made known by the Executive Secretary himself, recently in Awka, the state’s capital. According to him, through the use of a short code, Anambra State residents can take out a health insurance coverage and be enrolled successfully into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme. He also stated that the shortcode also allows for those enrolled in the scheme to effectively pay their premiums.   According to the announcement, residents can access this by simply dialling the shortcode *1070*1#, from any mobile network in Nigeria, one will be able to access the platform that is known as “Anambra State Mobile Health Insurance Platform”. And by following through with the instructions as they may be presented, one can easily register on the platform.  The Executive Secretary, Dr Onyemaechi, revealed that the innovation was made possible through the support and partnerships of the World Health Organization and the Nigerian office of the European Union. These supports he believes are due to the obvious achievements of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency. He went further to add that the initiative will greatly increase the access of Anambra state residents to good and affordable healthcare delivery.

Interested individuals who want to be enrolled into the insurance scheme of the state can do so with as little as one thousand Naira (NGN 1,000) monthly payment or twelve thousand Naira (NGN 12,000) annual payment.  According to the Executive Secretary, the agency has already enrolled more than one hundred and fifteen thousand (115,000) people into the health insurance scheme, both from the formal and informal sectors. He also added that residents who desire to enrol in the scheme can do so from anywhere for as long as they have access to a mobile network. They can as well call their 24 hours customer care service lines:  08059304487 or 08021810222.
