Having dreams are beautiful and exciting. They’re the images we behold in our imaginations. They’re the visions we visualise, the beauties we desire. However, when all remains a dream, nothing physical or tangible is seen. If you don’t act, your dreams will become a nightmare.

  1. Be Aware That Nothing Manifest When We Don’t Go To Work

I’m one of those few individuals who believe that awareness is the beginning of anything great. When all you have is a dream, it’s not enough. It’s work that makes dreams become a reality. When you have this mindset of ”I must pursue my dreams by putting my hands on the plough” you’re halfway on your way to success.
  1. Find Out The Cost Of Making Your Dream A Reality

The reason why your dreams remain in their dream state is that you’ve not made inquiries about how much your dreams will cost you to make them a reality. For many, the reasons why their dreams haven’t taken a physical state is because they’re speculating wrongly about the cost of making their dream a reality. For example, you want to be an owner of a big mart where all household goods are sold, it’ll remain a dream if you don’t find out the cost of having a big property for such or how much it’ll cost you to stock up. When you have the details of how much it’ll cost you to own a supermarket, you can have a financial plan towards purchasing it.
  1. Identify Your Motivation

One of the ways to make your dream a reality is to understand your motivators. For me, I have a list of writers within and outside Africa that makes me take my writing dreams seriously. I also look at what my friends are doing with their lives, which makes me take my own dreams serious, too. Also, there are both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Intrinsic motivation means pursuing goals based on internal factors. This could be your heartfelt desire to see your dreams come to pass. Most times, people get inspired to pursue their dreams to fulfil the wishes of their beloved late parent or to address certain issues in society. Dreams often follow passion. Extrinsic motivation is based on external factors. Some of these extrinsic factors that spur people to achieve their dreams could be an external reward, like money, status, or a good reputation.

  1. Have A Guiding Philosophy

Having a guiding philosophy can keep you going when all seems to go haywire or overboard. People’s philosophies drive them. For instance, the philosophy of ‘never say never’, ‘never give up’, ‘keep moving, regardless’ can make people push on until they achieve their dreams. Furthermore, some people’s philosophy is to be an early riser, to see dignity in labour. Personal philosophies are like fuel for great people.
  1. Set Goals

Goal setting is the beginning of transforming dreams into reality. It’s the roadmap and compass in which we use to navigate to make our dreams a reality. Having goals can be divided into long-term, mid-term and short-term goals. Setting goals is not enough, make plans to see them through. For instance, if you want to have the biggest biscuit factory in Nigeria in the next ten years, you must understand the rudiments of baking biscuits, and running a factory. Secondly, draft out your business plan. Thirdly, you must know the cost of machines and other equipment. If you don’t, go for a market survey. Having a to-do list can really help you navigate. Finally, start small.
  1. Start Small

Dream big, start small. Starting small is how you transform your dreams into reality. Big dreams might scare you due to the cost. It’s essential you start small, build up little by little until your big dreams become a reality. If you want to own a transporting business with fleets of buses, you can start with two buses, build up your savings and acquire more buses as you go. If you want to write a 400-paged novel in two years time, start with 4 pages a day. Dreams aren’t instant, they’re processed. Featured Image Source: iStock
