Social Media Accounts To Follow: 6 Male Models Doing Nigeria Proud
Samuel Okoruwa
Modelling is often portrayed by the mainstream media as a glamorous craft that involves cameras, red carpet moments, and exotic trips. While this holds some truth, modelling, like any other art, requires creativity and must be honed continually to meet certain standards. In Nigeria alone, there are quite a handful of male models that have worked their way to the top and now stand out from the crowd. From signing large deals to representing Nigeria in various countries, these male models are in as much demand as their female counterparts and are also paid commensurately. Here are some of them below:
David Obennebo
An only child and graduate of Bells University, Davidson Obennebo’s big break into the fashion industry came when he won the Elite Model Look World Final in 2016. Prior to that, he had been an alluring Instagram model who caught the fancy of one of Nigeria’s leading modeling agencies, Beth Model Africa. This led to Davidson shooting his first ever campaign for Nigerian menswear designer Tokyo James; competing in the Aquafina Elite Model Look Nigerian 2016 competition, where he emerged the winner at the national level and also being the first black model ever to win the Elite Model Look at international level in 33 years. Davidson has worked or walked, as the case may be, for some of the creme de la cremes of fashion houses including; Balmain, Givenchy,DSquared2, and Versace. Aside from modeling, Davidson loves sports especially soccer which was the first option for him before he later ventured into modeling.
Victor NdigweVictor Ndigwe is another model that made it to the limelight after his win in the Aquafina Elite Model Look Nigeria in 2014. Scouted by Beth Model Africa, the young model has worked his way to the top just within a few years of his emergence in the fashion scene. Victor has walked for globally recognized fashion brands like Ermenegildo, Zegna, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Versace, Hermes, amongst others. Among hisoutstanding achievements in his portfolio, is being the first Nigerian male model to walk the runways of Milan and Paris.
Stephen Blaise Adenika
Like some others on this list, Stephen also emerged a winner of the Aquafina Elite Model Look. He won the competition in 2017 at the age of 21, while studying Public Administration in the Lagos State University (LASU). This was considered phenomenal because of his ability to break grounds both in academics and his modeling career. Since his triumph at Elite, Stephen has also walked for OrangeCultureNigeria, Gtbank Nigeria, Arise Fashion Week, and many more.
Akintayo (TY) Ogunkoya
This UK based supermodel from Nigeria is quite androgynous in appearance and style and this seems to be what makes him most appealing in the fashion industry. Interestingly, Akintayo has an A-level in Business and a degree in Materials Engineering. His fashion journey has been a remarkable one not just because of the relatively young age at which he began modeling but also because of the accomplishments he has made. Akintayo has worked for some major fashion brands like GAP and Armani.Toyin Oyeneye
Like any aspiring model looking for an opportunity to land a fashion contract, Toyin started his fashion journey by sending images of himself to different modelling agencies until he was eventually discovered by a South African agency, ICE Models Management, in 2014. He was born and bred in Nigeria and later moved to South Africa, Cape Town, where he is perhaps still obtaining a degree in business. The young model, known for his athletic build and masculine energy, credits some aspects of his success to the modelling industry in South Africa which is quite ahead of the modelling industry in Nigeria. He has been featured on the cover of GQ Magazine and has worked with fashion icons like Mai Atafo.Seun Logan
This is another young model signed to Beth Model Management and also Boss Models. As early as the young age of 19, Seun had already started collaborating with several notable brands such as MTN, Jumia, Merwe Mode, British Council and amongst others. He has walked for designer labels like TI.Nathan, Sisiano andmore. Some of his most notable runway walks have taken place at the Lagos Fashion & Design Week event and 2016MenswearFashion Week event in Cape Town.
