Stretch out your fingernails, do you like what you see? Are you comfortable with the way your nails look? If not, then this might be of help to you. It’s easy to ignore the nails, or even get babaric to the point of biting them when overgrown or when we are nervous.  This should not be. Keeping our fingernails clean should be part of our daily routine. Do you know that unhealthy fingernails are breeding grounds for bacteria? As unnoticeable as it might seem, a lot can take place underneath our nails which might have an adverse effect on the skin. How many times have we dipped our hands in water, without actually checking to see if our nails are free of dirt? The first thing you should know about your nails is that, they are easy carriers of dirt. So, be mindful where it goes. As we grow older, our nails begin to demand more attention as they also suffer from wearing out. Secondly, long nails are more prone to dirt as the length can be a storage, for accumulating more dirt, than short nails. Trim your nails as often as they grow, this can reduce the effect of breeding dirt and attracting bacteria. Clip your nails and file them well. Do not attempt chewing your nails in order to trim them, you might actually be feeding on bacteria in the process. If you’re hungry and your nails are the closest thing to satisfaction, think of the amount of bacteria you might be swallowing. That might keep you in check! Always moisturize your nails. You can do this by using a hand moisturizer, rub the lotion into your fingernails. This causes the nails to appear bright and shiny, leaving them hydrated. Furthermore, always keep a glove in handy whenever you find yourself doing chores. When our nails come in contact with water too often, it makes them weak and this causes breaking of nails. This does not in any way beautify the nails, as they are left unequal and uncared for. Try to minimize the number of manicures you subject your nails to. Be confident in wearing your nails and caring for them without covering them up in acrylic nails. This might affect your natural nails which can lead to infections. Enough of the chemicals, be disciplined enough to cater for your nails and you will be surprised at how much difference it would make. Your nails are also a vital part of your body, treat them with utmost care and attention. Remember, Healthy nails make healthy fingers.
