4 Ways To Boost Your Energy Levels

The Independent

There are no two ways about it – it’s almost impossible to function well when you’re always feeling sluggish and find it difficult to stay awake during the day. While most people look for a solution in supplements that hardly have any evidence backing them, there are more healthy and natural ways to enhance your energy levels.

Here are 4 simple strategies to boost your energy levels naturally.

Get more sleep

People often sleep late when they have extra work or a deadline to meet. However, this habit can deplete your energy levels, making you tired and lethargic the next day. Although people require varying amounts of sleep, experts recommend aiming for at least 7 hours of sleep per night in order to feel energised in the morning. You can improve your sleep by establishing a sleep schedule, reading a book, or listening to some relaxing music.

Reduce stress

Stress is a common culprit when it comes to tiredness and fatigue. If you think stress is the cause of your poor sleep, try determining the cause of the stress and eliminating it from your life. This may not be possible in some cases, so the alternative would be to reduce your stress levels, which can also boost your energy level. Some strategies to boost your energy levels include relaxing, reading, brief walks, meditation, etc.

Exercise

Another great way to fight fatigue and feel more energised is to become more active. One study showed that engaging in some low-intensity running 3 times per week for as long as 6 weeks may significantly boost sleep quality. Try stepping away from your desk and going for a stroll during your lunch break, using the stairs instead of the elevator, or walking to work or school instead of driving to get some activity into your day.

Limit alcohol

Although drinking alcohol can have a sedative effect and make you feel drowsy, regular intake can lead to poor sleep quality. Moreover, alcohol has a diuretic effect which causes you to produce more urine than usual. As a result, drinking right before bed may interrupt your sleep causing you to wake up in the middle of the night to urinate. Therefore, it’s best to avoid close to bedtime and limit your intake to one drink per day for women and two per day for men.
