A new date for the final of the 2019 edition of the Delta State Principals’ Cup, is expected to be decided later today, 12th March, in a meeting by the Local Organizing Committee of the competition.
The competition, which is for all secondary schools in the state, officially kicked off in October 2018, with all the schools in the 25 Local Governments in the state competing for honors.
However, the competition had to be placed on hold pending the completion of the 2019 elections.
Before the election break, Obule Integrated School, Sapele and Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku, already qualified for the final showdown originally slated for March 15.
According to the head of the LOC, Chiedu Ebie, who is also the state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, a date for the final event will be chosen today at the meeting.
Ebie is expected to host the LOC officials and the organizing team in his office, where they will also discuss the logistics for the final game.
Speaking on how soon the match could happen and if they would be any cause for further delay, the head of the organizing team, Tony Pemu, said apart from the concluded elections, Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B qualifiers fixture against Seychelles, scheduled for the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, could influence the plans for the Zenith/Delta Principal’s Cup final.
