Today, 5th of October, is
World Teachers’ Day — a day set apart to honor teachers all around the world and applaud them for their great contributions to our development.
World Teachers’ Day was established in 1994 and commemorates the signing of the 1966
UNESCO Recommendation Concerning The Status of Teachers, a document which sets the standard for the status and situations of teachers all around the world; their recruitment, training, education, employment and working conditions.
One day, however, is not enough to celebrate this great people who put their needs behind those of their students in the education process.
Today, schools will organize extracurricular activities to celebrate this dedicated and important people. One of which is a debate session — where students will gather to constructively argue which profession is better from a list which routinely includes Doctors, Engineers and others. I vividly remember the teachers taking home a well deserved win each time.
Tasked with the great responsibly of building the minds of future generations, teachers surely deserve a whole lot more for the role they play in our world today, and for this reason the UNESCO and Education International (EI) mounts a campaign each year to raise awareness of the importance of teachers to the society.
The 2018 edition of World Teachers Day is themed,
The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher. This topic serves as a reminder to everyone that the right to education cannot be fully accomplished without the input of trained and qualified teachers.
