The FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy tour will make a brief stop in Nigeria on April 10, at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Women’s World Cup trophy visit is coming 13 months after the Men’s FIFA World Cup trophy also made a brief stop in Nigeria ahead of the 2018 global championship.

The World football governing body, FIFA, has informed the Nigeria Football Federation that former Nigeria international striker, Osaze Peter Odemwingie, who is one of the FIFA Legends for this year’s Women’s World Cup finals in France, will arrive Nigeria on Wednesday morning, while three other FIFA officials are expected to arrive hours later.

The FIFA officials for the tour include, Nicole Fisch (leader for women’s football project), Sarai Bareman (chief women’s football officer) and Vanessa Marques (lead for marketing project).

The FIFA team will receive a special welcome at the Office of the Minister of Youth and Sports on Thursday morning, after which members of the NFF, the sports ministry and the FIFA representatives will move to the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja for the display of the trophy.

At the main event, there will be a video documentary on the evolution of women football in Nigeria, an address by the President of Nigeria Football Federation and FIFA’s perspective on women football, before individuals will get a chance to take pictures with the coveted trophy.

Alongside the officials set to grace the trophy display ceremony, some Super Falcon players who returned from a two-match tour of Spain on Tuesday afternoon, and pupils from two schools in the Abuja metropolis, are expected to be part of the event.

The global showcase will begin on June 7, and run through July 7, 2019, in several locations across nine cities in France.
