The United Nation’s World Food Program is inviting people with innovative ideas around food security to apply to its accelerator program. The organisation is in search of startups and companies that have developed disruptive solutions to the problems of global hunger and persisting food insecurity across the world.

Entities eligible for this program must have created products or services that enable access to safe and nutritious food and drive equitable livelihoods for vulnerable people. They should possess ideas that rethink current food systems in ways that improve the prospects of communities attaining the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: ending hunger.

Benefits

Startups and companies selected for this program will benefit in the following ways:

Get up to $100,000 in equity-free funding; further funding may also be provided, subject to significant progress made towards achieving specific targets.
Work with World Food Program representatives to refine their solutions.
Receive guidance and technical support from industry mentors to drive the startup’s project forward.
Leverage the World Food Program’s public, private and government partners to speed up implementation.

Eligibility

Intending applicants should meet these conditions to be considered:

The startup, whether for-profit or non-profit, should be incorporated as of the time of application.
Their idea must be at least at the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage, preferably with some degree of market traction.
The solution should be financially viable.
The startup’s proposal should demonstrate how collaborating with the World Food Program would help the startup’s strategy over the long term.

How The Program Will Unfold

If you’re interested in participating in the World Food Program accelerator, you can apply to join its Innovation Bootcamp. The deadline for this is Sunday, September 19th. Following this, the World Food Program will place successful applicants with one of its Bootcamps for the next six months. The Bootcamp is a five-day high-intensity workshop that helps participating teams refine their project plans. On the last day of the Bootcamp, participants will pitch their project to an audience of potential partners and investors. They stand a chance of winning cash rewards.
