The biggest source of fun emanates from River Ethiope, a clear river believed to originate from the root of a giant silk tree in another local government in Delta State. It is along this River Ethiope that multiple recreational facilities have sprung up, making visiting Abraka a choice tourist destination in Delta state.

If you want to get there by road, just make sure you use public transport or rent a taxi to get there because the Ughelli-Abraka road needs urgent rehabilitation. But if you have a jeep or sturdy car that can handle driving on rough roads, then you can drive there yourself. But only a skilled driver or frequent user of that route can get you there stress-free.

Below are some attractions to choose from when visiting Abraka:

1. Abraka Turf and Country club

This equestrian leisure club is a high-end spot for international and local tourists. Its vast estate is has lodging, accommodation, restaurants, sports and other recreational facilities. It is perfect for horse riding, picnicking, swimming in a pool or in the river, canoeing, nature trail exploration, quad-biking, polo tournaments and much more. It is great for a one-day visit, family recreation (kids inclusive) or a group sleepover, similar to the arrangement organised for sleepovers at Kajuru Castle. It is the number one destination in Abraka.

2. Gordons Resort Hotel

This renowned spot, also known as McCarthy Beach, is moderately priced compared to the Turf and country club. Its accommodation includes rooms, suites, chalets, bush bars and restaurant for tourists who want to sleepover amidst green heath fields where children can run wild. The water from the river is channelled into a swimming pool for those who aren’t so bold to swim in nature or for kids’ safety. It is a suitable spot for deep diving, beach volleyball, kayaking, canoeing, sunbathing, just to name a few. The huts by the beach side is great for group outings as much as couples. The white sands, clear green waters, connecting bridge and dense surrounding forests makes this spot awesome for a getaway.

3. Abraka River Resort

Because of the white sand in Delta State, every waterfront looks like a beach, but the absence of beach waves takes nothing away from this resort. It is ideal for swimming and boating activities, especially on days where the rush for the facility is less. The green ambience from the forest trees around, coupled with the beautiful clear waters, gives this place a whimsical African feel that adds a sparkle to any holiday.

Abraka is splendid for savannah safari in a tropical rainforest. Also, don’t forget to check out the authentic Urhobo cuisine in this town. Let us know if there are any other surprises tourists can expect when they visit Abraka.
