We’re Not Interested in Government – Military

Nigerian-Army-Headquarters
The Nigerian military, yesterday, said there was no contemplation from any quarter as opined by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu during Wednesday’s Senate plenary. Ekweremadu had advised that the military could stage a coup in the face of receding democracy in the country. The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, shared this in a statement through, Brigadier General John Agim. It further urged Nigerians to disregard the tension raised by the Deputy Senate Government as the present men and officers in the Nigerian military were thorough professionals with no ambition in politics whatsoever. The DHQ said the Senator’s statement was derogatory to the Army and by extension to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, even though it had seemed “cautionary and sincere in the atmosphere of discourse.” It restated that the military submitted totally to the democratic government and reminded that officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who were quasi-politicals were honourably eased out of service after the transition from a military to a democratic government in 1999.
