Norwich 2 – 2 Everton
Everton’s Nigerian international Victor Anichebe started the new season on the bench, coming on for Ross Barkley in the 90th minute of the season opener against Norwich, which ended 2-2.
Though Barkley has represented England in the past in under-16, under-17, under-19, and under-21 international matches, he is eligible to represent Nigeria but has been touted as a wild card to make England’s 2014 World Cup squad. The youngster scored Everton’s first goal.
West Brom 0 – 1 Southampton
Peter Osaze Odemwingie has been relegated to the reserves and missed his team’s opening day loss to Southampton at the Hawthorns. The 31-year old has two weeks before the transfer window closes on September 2 to obtain a transfer from the club. Ricky Laambert scored the only goal of the game for West Brom.
Chelsea 2 – 0 Hull City
Jose Mourinho’s emphatic return to his old stomping ground was celebrated with a win over Premier League new boys, Hull City.
Sonie Aluko started for the Tigers and was substitiuted in the second half for George Boyd.
Chelsea’s Nigerian contingent – Kenneth Omeruo, Victor Moses and Mikel John Obi didn’t make the Chelsea squad for the game.
