In the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Akwa United went top of the league table on Sunday after a vital 2-1 home win against Kwara United on Sunday. An Ubong Friday strike in the 38th minute gifted Akwa United the lead before Nasiru Jubril scored a second in the 69th minute to make it 2-0. With ten minutes left from the final whistle, ex-Enyimba star, Wasiu Alalade pulled one back for the visitors but it was not enough to bring them back in the game.
