Action continued in Matchday 17 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as Rivers United and Plateau United continued their dominance in the 2021/22 league season. At the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, a brace from Joseph Onoja saw Rivers United beat Shooting Stars of Ibadan 2-0 on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

In Jos, hard fighting visitors, Katsina United, were beaten 1-0 by Plateau United on Sunday, courtesy of a Buhari Ibrahim diving header in stoppage time. The results meant Rivers United maintained the top spot with 38 points, one point above Plateau United on 37 points from 17 games.

League champions Akwa United were held to a 0-0 draw by Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Kwara United recorded the only away win of the weekend, after beating MFM 2-1 in Lagos State. Junior Lokosa and Alao Danbani gifted the visitors a 2-0 lead before Elijah Akanni’s strike for the home side, but it was not enough to save the Olukoya Boys.
