Weekend Sports RoundUp: Team Nigeria Claims Third Place

Team Nigeria finished the 22nd edition of the African Senior Athletic Championship in Mauritius on a good note after placing third on the medals table. A total of 11 medals (five Gold, three Silver, and three Bronze) put Nigeria behind second-placed South Africa and first-placed Kenya.

Nigeria’s national Under-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, kicked off their 2022 WAFU B U-17 tournament in Ghana on a positive note after beating the hosts 4-2 in the opening game on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Goals from Emmanuel Michael, Precious Williams, Jubril Azeez, and Light Ike, were all the NdukaUgbade-led charges needed to see off their West African neighbours at the Cape Coast Stadium. Nigeria and Togo will square off in their second group game on Tuesday, June 14 with the Golden Eaglets needing just a draw to qualify for the semifinal of the event.
