Flying Eagles Advance in U-20 African Qualifiers

Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles have made it through to the final round of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after they ousted Guinea Bissau 1-0 in their second bout at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Sunday to make it through to the finals on 3-2 aggregate. Sunday’s match was a very decisive one after the Eagles finished the first leg with a 2-2- draw in Guinea. The first half of the second leg match up had the Flying Eagles miss out of a lot of good chances, however in the early minutes of the second half, Wasiu Aladade was brought down by a foul in the penalty box giving Nigeria the single chance they converted to put in a goal via Adamu AlHassan. The Flying Eagles will now face Mauritania in the final qualifying round of the qualifiers.

Lobi Stars continue NPFL dominance with Pillars and Plateau following closely

Nigeria Professional Football League table toppers Lobi Stars have maintained their leading position after they quickly regained their balance following the win against Enugu Rangers at the Aper Aku Stadium, Markurdi on Sunday. Anthony Okpotu showed fans that he’s still got it when the former top-scorer who has had a rather lackluster campaign this season scored the winning goal in the 64th minute. Kano Pillars are now in second place after they successfully held their own 0-0 against hosts Nasarrawa United in Lafia. Reigning Plateau United, however were not so lucky on match day 22 as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port-Harcout. A goal by Osita Chikere in the 16th minute sealed Plateau’s faith to third place. In other match day 22 fixtures, MFM lost 3-1 to Kwara United who put up more than a good fight in Illorin.
