Warri to the World: Awani Stitches Eagles to Fashion Glory
Henry Okoli
After so long awaiting, the Super Eagles are now in Russia to partake in the World Cup Mundial in what would be a month-long quest for glory. Not only did they leave Nigerians with strong hopes of going far in the global competition, but the Gernot Rohr-led team has impressed soccer-loving Nigerians and the world at large with the beautifully-sewn African attires they adorned for their departure.
The team whose Official Jersey for the World Cup is still making a strong fashion statement in today’s market ―recording tremendous sales both nationally and internationally― did not stop at the Nike wear in promising Nigerians a different performance. While we still in awe over the brilliant idea of not travelling in the traditional tracksuit as footballers do when going to competitions, we’ve discovered some more about the Designer, Esimaje Awani, a Warri based designer whose craft earned the Super Eagles the rating as “The team with the best traveling uniform” in Russia by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Awani is a Nigerian-Canadian, CEO of GT Stitches and also the CEO of GloryLand Tour Ltd. With GT Stitches, his specialty is making male and female caftans.
Coming only a few days after GQ named the Super Eagles jersey as the ‘Best’, Nigerians are now left hoping for a stellar performance from the Eagles to seal off what has been a terrific World Cup preparation.
