Ugbade who captained the first Nigerian side to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in China, in 1985 (the first edition of the global event) expressed his excitement after the Golden Eaglets beat Togo 3-1 in their second game on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Cape Coast Stadium to book a place in the semi-final of the continental competition.

KevweIyede scored Nigeria’s first goal in the game against Togo in the 10th minute before team captain Precious Tonye Williams scored Nigeria’s second goal in the 22nd minute. The Togolese side would pull one back with 15 minutes left to play, but substitute Light Eke ensured NdukaUgbade and his technical crew had nothing to worry about after scoring Nigeria’s third goal of the game in the 81st minute.

Despite being impressed with the display of the teenagers, Ugbade warned that it is too early to celebrate, insisting that the boys must book the Africa Cup of Nations ticket with a win in the semi-final to celebrate.

“We are determined to get the AFCON ticket. It is not yet celebration time for the team until the semi-final is won. The boys know the task ahead. We will keep working as a team and correct the necessary mistakes noticed in the match against Togo. I want to salute the players determination and dexterity in both matches played so far.”
