Victor Osimhen Set To Become Most Expensive Nigerian Footballer

Complete Sports

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, in few hours or days will become the most expensive footballer in Nigeria’s history and the most expensive signing in the history of the Italian club, SSC Napoli. The Partenopei are willing to part with the stunning sum of €50m plus Orestis Karnezis for the 21-year-old Nigerian, in addition to bonuses for his French club, Lille OSC. Reports stating the deal will cost the Italian giants €81m are far-fetched, it probably includes the wages for the entire contract.

Osimhen who is set to be offered a five-year deal costs more than Napoli’s current most expensive signing, Hirving Lozano (€42m) who arrived last summer from PSV Eindhoven. Clearly, Napoli spending that much to land the signature of the Nigerian means he has a lot to do with huge expectations from fans of the club known to be crazy about football. One might be tempted to ask why Napoli is willing to part with such huge sum and what Osimhen brings to the table?

The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner and highest goal scorer’s age, and playing style has endeared Gennaro Gattuso to him. With a height of 185cm, Osimhen possesses impressive speed and physique with a remarkable movement when he is off the ball. The striker raised in Lagos State, Nigeria, loves to run into channels and behind opposition defences, a quality which makes him good for Napoli’s style of play. The Super Eagle’s acceleration and ability to run with the ball makes him a perfect addition to the club’s counter-attacking approach in some games under Italian legend, Gattuso. With successful completion of his medicals in Rome last week, an announcement is still delayed to ensure final details are sorted out with the player’s new agent.
“We must finalize the agreement with his new agent. We are talking and we will see what happens.” Cristiano Giuntoli (Sporting Director, SSC Napoli)
