American independent film distributor, Vertical Entertainment, has bought distribution rights to the movie, Nigerian Prince, in the United States.
The writer and director of the movie, Faraday Okoro, was awarded the sum of $1 million by AT&T in April 2017 to produce his feature film with mentorship from the Tribeca Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Institute. The film was shot on location in Lagos, and its entire production finished in less than 12 months. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.
Nigerian Prince is Okoro’s feature debut. It stars Tina Mba, Dean Cameron, Craig Stott, Bimbo Manuel, Ebbe Bassey, Rita Edward, Omar Maskati, Crystabel Goddy, Eric Nwanso, Gregory Ojefua, and newcomers Antonio Bell and Chinaza Uche. Vertical Entertainment plans to release the film in multiple markets in the United States, including New York and Los Angeles and via national VOD outlets.
“Unveiling this story to the world is so gratifying for the entire cast and crew of Nigerian Prince,” Okoro said. “After winning AT&T Presents: Untold Stories last year, the team worked tirelessly to finish the film, but the hard work has all been worth it.”
The story of Nigerian Prince is mostly based on Okoro’s life. It follows the tale of a stubborn Nigerian-American teenager who is sent to Nigeria against his will and joins forces with an internet scammer to facilitate his return to the United States. The executive producers are Spike Lee and Biyi Bandele.
