Stanford University Basketball star, Chinenye Ogwumike, a hopeful 2014 draft pick for WNBA, is resuming internship in Nigeria, with the Ministry of Petroleum. She would work as an assistant to the Special Adviser to the Minister for Petroleum – for a seven week study abroad program. She has won several awards and plays power forward. Her role in the Stanford Cardinal team has bought her some shine, with her superstar sister, Nnemkadi, who plays for Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. She said last month of her internship that, “Right after our season ends I would have a few days to pack up and head over to Nigeria and that would be for a 6- to 8-week span of time….it’s way more than a game, you have to start making plans for your future, and I had the opportunity.” She has arrived Nigeria, and will also be involved in philanthropic programs in Nigeria with Access to Success (A2S) foundation. She said about her participation that, “Just being a Stanford student-athlete, people tend to see you as more than just an athlete. I want to leave my own mark that it’s not about what you do as an individual. It’s about what you do for other people, so that’s my goal. I want to be able to encourage people to find their passion and use those opportunities to achieve something and find a better life. I think that’s what sports did for me.” She is also involved in philanthropic projects in the States.
