Universal Music Nigeria, the Nigerian arm of the global music-based entertainment company, Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced its partnership with the annual jazz festival,
Runway Jazz.
Sipho Dlamini, the Managing Director of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (English-speaking) was present at the signing and had this to say:
“Universal Music is the number one entertainment company in the world and as such in the continent, we pride ourselves for upholding the same title. In Nigeria as we do in other countries that we operate, we have a record label where we sign local talents, then we also do live events. And on the live events, we conceptualise, produce and partner with companies like Runway Jazz to produce music concert, conferences, festivals and music related experiences. So for us it is a huge honour to be working with Runway Jazz festival on this two-day event, the conference and the jazz festival itself. We are very excited to be given the opportunity to partner with a prestigious jazz event. This will be the flagship event in Africa and we are very happy to be given the opportunity.”
Runway Jazz is an annual music and fashion festival conceived by
Afolabi Oke, with the mandate to promote global peace, unity and dialogue a couple of years ago. It partners with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Earlier editions of the event have featured stellar performances by internationaly acclaimed jazz artistes.
At the signing, Afolabi Oke expressed his appreciation to the Lagos state government for their support in rnsuring that Jazz music is promoted in the country.
According to Runway Jazz’s official website, this year’s edition, which will be hosted by
MC Abbey, will be a two-day celebration of Jazz and haute Couture showcasing the rich culture of Lagos State, as well as a Master Class on Music & Fashion. The event will engage stakeholders from a broad spectrum of industries and promises to be one of the biggest events of the year.
It is scheduled for the
29th of April 2018, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos,and will be headlined by American jazz saxophonist, multi instrumentalist and Grammy award nominee,
Gerald Albright. Tiwa Savage, Sweet Sound, Heavy Wind, Beyond Vocal, and the Society for Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN) are also expected to perform at the event.
