A former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, has asked the coaching crew of Nigeria’s U20 men’s team to focus on their finishing moves ahead of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
Chukwu’s warning came after the nation’s U-20 men’s team rounded off their campaign at the 2019 African U-20 Cup of Nations, in fourth place.
The Flying Eagles lost to South Africa on penalties in a third place fixture at the continental championships in Niger Republic.
Although the Nigerian men were quick-witted and beyond the class of the South Africans during the game, Nigeria could not score any goal until the final whistle.
The Amajita scored all five of their kicks, while Nigeria scored only three, relinquishing the third place title to South Africa.
Regardless, Nigeria will join first time African U-20 Champion, Mali, alongside Senegal, and South Africa, to represent the continent at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will kickoff on May 23.
Chukwu told newsmen on Monday, that though the Nigerian boys were ruthless in their game play, they lacked core finishing skills.
“The team’s coaching crew should revisit the technicality of finishing, the team is good but lacks finishing techniques.
“If you watch the match, you will see that Nigeria dominated the game but could not score.”
— Christian Chukwu
