It is surprising that even if Nigeria is not a popular international tourist destination, there are still some people who would love to visit. One major tourist attraction in Nigeria is nature.
We discovered that there are 11 states in Nigeria people are considering visiting for tourism this 2022. They are Bayelsa, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Delta, Lagos, FCT, and Rivers State.
Here is what you can find when you visit any of these states:
Bayelsa
We know the first oil well discovered in Nigeria is in Bayelsa. And this State is also the home of the former president, Goodluck Jonathan. Water surrounds most of its communities. If you are looking for a Riverine experience with a seafood menu, then this is the place to be. Places considered tour attractions in this state include Peace Park, Okpoama Beach, Kontiki Park and resort, Akassa forest, Akassa Slave transit Camp and tunnel, Agricultural Palm Beach and Ox-bow lake.
Nasarawa
Famed for its Farin Ruwa waterfall, Nasarawa state has other key attractions worth seeing. Its hilly terrain gives rise to spots like Eggon Hill and Cave, Maloney Hill, Ara rock, Oku Akpa, Karu waterfall, Peperuwa Lake, and Umaisha River bank.
You also get to see the Karofi Dyeing center, Salt villages, etc. In its waters, you get to see aquatic animals such as hippopotamus, manatees, and the usual water duck and geese. It is the perfect state for ecotourism.
Ondo
Ondo’s treasures range from the awesome views from the top of the popular Idanre hills in Idanre town and Oke Maria (Mary’s Hill) in Oka town. There are also waterfronts like Ebomi Lake, Araromi beach, and Igbokoda to visit. With Forests and Caves to explore like the caves of Ashes Isharun, and Igbo Olodumare forest, it is no wonder people are snooping around the internet about this state.
Osun
Interested in the history, art, and religious origins of the Yoruba people? Then Osun State has you covered.
Attractions to see in this state are Mbari Arts Centre, Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, Ooni of Ife’s palace, Moremi statue of liberty and Oranmiyan’s staff, Erin Ijesha Waterfalls (also known as Olumirin waterfalls), Oduduwa shrine and grove, Nike art centre, Genesis Art Gallery and National Museum Ile Ife.
Enugu
The wonders of Enugu are better experienced in person. From the slanting topography to the forests and water bodies, nature beckons you to feast your eyes here. Some sites to visit in Enugu State include Ikirike Hill, Iyinzu waterfall, Iva Valley, Unity Park, Ngwo, Cave pine forest, and waterfall, Ezeagu Tourists complex, Ani Ozalla Lake, Nwaekpu forest, Milliken hill, Akwuke-Atakwu sand beach, National Museum of Unity, Orsu waterfall and Awhum Cave & Waterfall.
Oyo
This state of ‘firsts’ draws attention to itself in a positive light. People want to see the first sky scrapper in Africa (Cocoa House) and Nigeria’s first university (the University of Ibadan aka UI) here. For tourism, we have the only suspended lake in Africa and the second in the world (Oke-Ado Mountain and Iyake Lake) here in Ado Awaye. There is also the lovely Agodi garden and UI zoological garden to see in Ibadan amongst other attractions.
