Connect Nigeria’s Top 100 Emerging SME’s: House Of Akwa

There are numerous SMEs in Nigeria with the capacity to collectively change the present economic situation in the country and  at the same time, revolutionize sectors for the sake of nation-wide growth. For these businesses to achieve this and ultimately revitalize the economy, exclusive attention must be given to them: the kind that stimulates conversations and strategies for growth. This is what Connect Nigeria sponsored by Union Bank and other organizations set out to achieve through the Top 100 Emerging SMEs campaign. The campaign which was created to strengthen SMEs around the country has finally come to an end after months of voting took place to single out a total of 100 SMEs from a nominated list. We now have a virtual list of 100 triumphant SMEs spanning several sectors under the Nigerian business climate including fashion and style, food and retail, media and entertainment, health, agriculture, transportation and logistics, tech startups, retail (online and offline), and alternative energy.   Under the fashion and style segment, House of Akwa – a fabric and cloth-making brand for women –  made it to the Top 100, with a total of 87 votes.  Ejimole Okereke, a lawyer by profession and fashion designer by vocation, is the proud founder of House Of Akwa. She unofficially founded the brand on October 26th, 2016 and incorporated it officially, under the Corporate Affairs Commissionon the 30th of March 2017. The first thing that meets the eye when you catch a glimpse of Ejimole’s fabrics, is the array of textiles of all shapes and sizes beautifully decorated with beads, sequins, and crystals. This is wholly due to the fact that House of Akwa specializes in the provision of African textiles by sourcing for luxury haute couture fabrics, designer and runway fabrics waiting to be sewn into pieces of fine African textiles, and bridal/asoebi fabrics for events and weddings. With Ejimole’s dexterity in making fabrics and the apparent triumph of her brand in the Top 100 SME campaign, she seems set for success and has the capacity to succeed. Ejimole says she gets inspiration from the idea of rendering services that leave people satisfied and also credits her inspiration to reading books. “I read a lot of books and most of my best ideas have come from letting my mind run wild while I’m reading about successful people and real-life scenarios,” says the young entrepreneur.   The House of Akwa brand operates primarily on Instagram where orders can be made via the WhatsApp contact displayed on the page.
