British Prime Minister Theresa May Visits Nigeria  British Prime Minister, Theresa May, visited Nigeria for the first time ever on Wednesday, August 2018. The Prime Minister, who had been in South Africa the day before, where she met with President Cyril Ramaphosa, is embarking on her first-ever official trip to some Sub-Saharan African countries. While in Nigeria, she held talks with President Buhari about the welfare of the country and about the upcoming elections. On the elections, President Buhari said, “I assure you that I’m all out for free, fair, and credible elections. I’m very pleased that my party is doing very well”. “The High Commissioner will brief you more.  The recent successes in polls in Kastina, Bauchi, and Jos have boosted our morale greatly. Nigeria has accepted multiparty democracy and that is putting politicians on their toes, forcing them to work harder,” stated the president. The President acknowledged the UK government for their support for the anti-corruption campaign in Nigeria. “We had great opportunities and resources between 1999 and 2014, due to high oil prices. But when we came in 2015, oil prices plunged to as low as 37 dollars per barrel. “What we have been doing since 2015 is to focus on infrastructure development, despite low earnings. Work is ongoing in roads, rail, power, and many others.” He said. The President also commended Britain for its role in aiding the country in its fight against insurgency in the North-East. During the meeting, Nigeria and Britain signed a security and defence partnership, and an Economic Development Forum Agreement. Nigeria’s Most Popular Youth Corper Popular singer, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has finally become a corper as he registered to join the National Youth Service Corp on Tuesday. He made this known in an Instagram post: “I just registered for NYSC kamming.” The Fia crooner is registering for the programme three years after he graduated from Babcock University where he studied Music. Leah Shabiru Cries Out From Captivity  After about six months of captivity, Leah Shabiru, one of the 119 students that were abducted from Government Girls School, Dapchi, Yobe State, has pleaded for President Buhari to help her regain freedom. An audio clip of her plea was released on Monday by TheCable. Here is what she had to say: “I am Leah Shabiru, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling in the government, particularly, the President to pity me and get me out of this serious situation,” she said in Hausa. “I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get out of my current situation. I am begging you to treat me with compassion.  Thank you.” She added. DJ Cuppy Gives Her Take On Feminism Popular musician, Disk Jockey and daughter to one of Nigeria’s richest men, DJ Cuppy, has weighed in on feminism and why she is not a part of the movement. In an interview with City FM, the DJ said she stopped being a feminist because she realized she didn’t understand it.
