Lola is the founder of Unraveling Nigeria, a tourism company whose primal goal is to unravel every tourist attraction around Nigeria and showcase it to the world. She studied in London and while she was there, she never envisaged a career in tourism until after she had graduated and moved back to Nigeria. She traveled back to London for her brother’s graduation and it was while she was at Buckingham palace that something caught her fancy. She was taken aback by the very large number of people she saw at the palace. This struck a realization in her that people could also come flocking in into Nigeria to see and appreciate our culture. She runs a blog, where she pens down accurate descriptions of different tourist attractions in Nigeria.
Chiamaka Obuekwe
Chiamaka, who is fondly called ‘social prefect’ – a nick-name she was given at work because of her friendly nature – has always loved to go out since she was small. Her love for the outside made her parents impose so many curfews on her. Chiamaka’s interest in tourism was fueled by the many outings she had when she was small both at school and at home. Her entrepreneurship journey started after she had worked in Jumia for two years and she decided it was time to quit. She is the founder of blog of the same name and she has an instagram page which showcases her numerous tours around Nigeria.
Mofe Runsewe
While studying abroad for her Master’s degree in media law, Mofe got fascinated by the diverse ethnicities of her different course mates. She found out that they all had one unique thing or the other to say about their countries which were quite different from how the media portrayed them. In an interview she exclaimed excitedly:
“It was quite exciting to see that these people were very different from what we had watched on CNN or BBC news and all that… I was like …so these places can be like this? So people can come out of Iraq and Iraq is not war-torn?”
This is what made her set out on the journey to explore these places for herself and see them in reality. Her first trip was to Marrakech, Morocco. She spent the night with Berber Nomads at the Sahara desert. This was what inspired the name, Naija Nomads of which she is the founder. Naija Nomads, which started as an online personal journal of Mofe’s travel experiences, has been transformed into a blog which curates the experiences of many travelers within and outside Nigeria.
Michael Balogun
After spending some years in London, Michael got inspired by their system of tourism and decided to implement all he had learnt about tourism by establishing Xtrm Tours 2 Nigeria Limited. He co-founded the company with his friend, Kola Majekodunmi, and together their goal is to make the brand a “one-stop” shop for everything tourism in Nigeria and create employment opportunities for Nigerians.
