Great Reads: Top 5 Books You Should Read For The Weekend

I know, I know. There’s no way you can read 5 books in a weekend, especially if you have chores and responsibilities lined up waiting to consume your weekend. Reading is a good way to spend your time; you are using your time productively, learning, as well as enjoying yourself all at the same time. You most certainly may not be able to finish even one book in a weekend, but the idea is to at least pick one from the list and start reading. You can stop whenever you feel like it, and resume at any time. For people who aren’t already book addicts, it will give you something different to do for the free time you have during the weekend. So, plan to dig into any of these books for your weekend read.   1. “Everything Good Will Come” by Sefi Atta. Buchi Emecheta sums this book up perfectly: “Everything Good Will Come is like listening to an old friend recounting and bringing up to date and to life the happenings in our beloved city of Lagos…” 2. “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. A story of love, race and friendships,  Chimamanda Adichie once again captures the reader in an excellent way. 3. “The Icarius Girl” by Helen Oyeyemi. A book about an extraordinary mixed race girl who makes friend with a Nigerian girl called TillyTilly. 4. “The Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives” by Lola Shoneyin. This book is the story of Baba Segi, a middle-aged polygamous man with four wives, seven children and a robust appetite.  5. “The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears” by Dinaw Mengestu. A book about Sepha Stephanos who fled Ethiopia to start a new life in the United States. It’s a story of life in a different place, and the longing for motherland.
