Tony Elumelu Foundation Set To Empower 3,369 African Female Entrepreneurs

  As part of its moves aimed at empowering African entrepreneurs, the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) has announced that it will be giving out a total grant of $16.8 million in non-refundable seed capital to 3,369 women in the continent.

This information was made public by Head of the Foundation and Chairman of the United Bank for Africa Tony Elumelu in an online statement on Friday, November 26, 2021. Elumelu said the grant will be targeted at young female African entrepreneurs who will make up 68% of candidates. In the statement, Elumelu hailed his wife Mrs Awele Vivian Elumelu who he described as the silent supporter of female entrepreneurs in Africa, noting that “3,369 young women will each receive $5k non-returnable seed capital as part of the 2021 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme. This is a $16.8m non-refundable grant to young African women and makes up over 68% of the total candidates selected this year.”

Elumelu also revealed that the Tony Elumelu Foundation has in 2021 disbursed a total sum of $24.75 million to 5,000 African SMEs for the #TEF2021 Programme. It will be recalled that in early 2021, the TEF which has gained popularity as Africa’s leading philanthropic entrepreneurship group, successfully trained 200,000 entrepreneurs from across the 54 African countries in core business management skills during the 2021 TEF Entrepreneurship Programme.
